Cups series BNov 2024
Continuing down the path of pulling handles and uniformity led me to my second series of cups. I’ve grown an admiration for black clay, I get the impression people steer away from black as a colour because it is quite bold and intimidating. But I find black ceramic especially to be elegant, and gives a different dimension to the food or bevrage you consume from it. Another motivator: This deep, dark bodied clay that is simply wonderful to throw with. The clay has just enough grog to give it more structural integrity without sanding your hands down in the process. I did however find it more challenging to attach handles.

I wanted to demonstrate a stark contrast to the blackness of the clay, and since I’ve been using porcelain slip recently I decided to brush some strokes on the side. I wanted to create the impression of traslucentcy and fluidity, and I’m really happy with how these turned out. I preferred this series of mugs to the last, and I think I’ll continue to create these.
